This report highlights the public universities' collaborative efforts to maximize effiiciency and reduce costs.

Disaggregating the Truth: A Re-analysis of the Costs and Benefits of Michigan’s Public Universities
This report re-analyzes national data to demonstrate that Michigan’s public universities have made cuts to instruction, student services and academic services during a period of declining state support. It also calls into question the Mackinac report suggesting that investment in higher education is negatively related to economic growth.

This study takes a comprehensive look at the economic history of the Great Lakes region and assesses its currents assets and the challenges the region must overcome in order to make it a global destination hub in the future. Authored by John Austin, Brookings Institution Nonresident Senior Fellow and Brittany Affolter-Caine, doctoral student in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education at U-M.

A Look at Michigan's Emerging New Economy
A study prepared by Lansing-based Public Policy Associates which illustrates Michigan's evolution to the new knowledge economy. Among the study's conclusion is that stronger state investment in the state's transportation, communications and educational infrastructure and nurturing cultural values as they pertain to innovation and entrepreneurship are critical to continued emergence into the new economy.

A New Agenda for a New Michigan
A report by Ann Arbor-based Michigan Future, Inc. that articulates strategies for positioning Michigan for success in a knowledge-driven and entrepreneurial economy. Chief among the proposed strategies is greater support for the state's higher education institutions.

Report of the Cherry Commission on Higher Education and Economic Growth

Michigan's Future is in College

States with the most college graduates have the strongest economies, more jobs, and better paying jobs.

That's why Governor Jennifer Granholm appointed Lt. Governor John Cherry and a bi-partisan Commission on Higher Education and Economic Growth to recommend strategies for doubling the number of college degree holders in Michigan.

The Cherry Commission report affirms that Michigan's future is in college and that higher education is the road to prosperity and a better future for everyone in Michigan.
