International Students

Mackinac BridgeAs a student thinking about coming to the United States to further your education with a graduate or undergraduate degree, you have many options. There are thousands of colleges and universities here, many of which are world-renowned. From coast to coast, there are institutions offering degree programs in every field you can imagine. This can make selecting the best college or university a difficult decision.

Traditionally, states on the east and west coasts of the U.S. have been popular destinations for students from around the world, and rightly so. But there is another state, bounded by water, which deserves your serious consideration – Michigan. The state’s 15 public universities offer hundreds of quality academic programs including everything from nuclear physics to veterinary school.

In addition to a tradition of excellent higher education opportunities, our state is a wonderful place to live. Seasonal changes make Michigan a state of contrasts in weather and available recreational activities. The state’s natural beauty, including freshwater beaches, sand dunes, rivers, islands and lakes reflects the best of the Midwest region. But Michigan is more than just beautiful landscapes.

Southeastern Michigan and Detroit make up the 7th largest metropolitan area in the U.S., home to over 5 million people. As a result, all types of cultural and entertainment options are available and easily accessible. In addition to receiving a quality education, you will also experience American life firsthand, which will not only to improve your language and cultural fluency, but will provide many fun and unforgettable memories.

"As a student studying Mechanical Engineering I am experiencing a great time. Teachers and students are so friendly, co-operative, and ready to give assistance whenever I need it. Especially the Office of International Programs which helps me overcome any difficulty I face. The sports facilities and labs are always readily equipped with all I need and more to carry out my studies. The country setting gives me a chance to carry out a lot of my favorite activities while enjoying the beautiful natural scenery and the distinct four seasons."
