Grand Valley State is Michigans seventh largest public university, enrolling students from throughout Michigan and beyond, drawn to its high caliber programs and its exceptional classroom and housing facilities. Grand Valley classes are taught by faculty, not teaching assistants, in keeping with the universitys goal of offering the kind of personal attention usually found only at private colleges. Its broad array of academic programs and services has made Grand Valley one of the Midwests most popular comprehensive universities.
Grand Valleys enrollment of 20,000 contains traditional college students, graduate students, and some returning adults who are completing, or starting anew, their degrees. The university offers 64 undergraduate and 19 graduate degree programs from its campuses in Allendale, Grand Rapids and Holland and from regional centers in Muskegon and Traverse City.
The university's main campus, in Allendale, takes full advantage of the natural beauty of its 897 wooded acres. In the 40 years since the university's founding, the largely residential Allendale Campus offers the complete undergraduate experience, with numerous student organizations, an array of league-leading NCAA Division II athletic teams, and an assortment of year-round artistic, cultural and entertainment events. Grand Valleys student housing is remarkable for its variety, comfort and flexibility. The campus is also the home of the award-winning Meadows Golf Course and Academy.
The Robert C. Pew Grand Rapids Campus, featuring the new Richard M. DeVos Center, is home to GVSU's graduate programs, including the Seidman School of Business and the Padnos School of Engineering. The campus also offers downtown student housing at Secchia Hall, with additional housing presently under construction. The Grand Rapids campus is also the site of the Meijer Public Broadcast Center, home to the universitys public radio and television stations, WGVU AM-FM-TV and WGVS AM-FM.
In Holland, GVSU's Meijer Campus offers students in this rapidly growing city the opportunity to earn a complete degree or take a few classes. Admissions, registration, advising, and library services supplement the classrooms and laboratories at the Meijer campus, which was established in 1997.
GVSU also offers courses and degree programs at higher education centers in partnership with the community colleges in Traverse City and Muskegon. Also in Muskegon, the university recently opened its new Lake Michigan Center, home of its Annis Water Resources Institute. The Lake Michigan Center is well on the way toward its goal of pursuing nationally significant work in freshwater environmental research.
Grand Valley has been named to Yahoo! Internet Life magazine's list of the 100 Most Wired Universities in the nation in recognition of the university's commitment to integrating the latest technology into all aspects of student life.
The university's high academic standards, coupled with moderately priced tuition, has earned Grand Valley repeat appearances on the annual list of America's 100 Best College Buys.
