Michigan Lawmakers Approve $10.6 Million Tax Credit for Ferris State to Renovate Grand Rapids' Old Federal Building

The Old Federal Building is on course for a new life after $10.6 million in tax credits approved by the Legislature late Thursday. The credits provide a springboard for Ferris State University to raise an additional $20 million for an historic renovation of the 99-year-old building. The building will be used by Ferris' Kendall School of Art and Design, where enrollment has jumped 49 percent.

Kellogg Foundation Commits $1.2M to Internships in Michigan

The Intern In Michigan program got a big bump this week when the W.K. Kellogg Foundation pledged $1.2 million to support it. The funding will keep the program up and running through 2012. The program intends to encourage more businesses, big and small, in the state to create and expand internship programs to help staunch Michigan's brain drain.
